Responsible Sourcing Initiative Kenya Project Launch

In partnership with The Coca-Cola Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and Mr. Green Africa, the Responsible Sourcing Initiative launched a project in Kenya, marking the program’s expansion into Africa. The project was announced during a two-day workshop in Nairobi, where stakeholders gathered to discuss the project goals and initial findings, and share insights on responsible sourcing in Africa.

The project aims to improve the livelihoods of informal waste workers within Mr. Green Africa’s recycling value chain. Kenya generates an estimated 983,000 tonnes of plastic waste each year, with informal waste sector workers playing an important role in waste collection and recycling. Despite their contributions, they face challenges including persistent marginalization, health risks, and low wages.
