African Business and Human Rights Forum

The Circulate Initiative hosted a session titled “Responsible Business and Human Rights in Recycling Supply Chains: Action in Africa” that spotlighted the role of value chain actors in implementing responsible sourcing and, in turn, protecting the rights of waste pickers in the African context.

The session shared learnings from the Responsible Sourcing Initiative implementation in Kenya. Maditlhare Koena (International Alliance of Waste Pickers), Keiran Smith (Mr. Green Africa), and Evans Otieno (VSO) discussed Africa’s informal sector landscape, the challenges faced by waste pickers, and the role of recyclers and businesses in implementing responsible sourcing practices.
